A little bit more about me

That woman in the photo is me, a few months ago, at a time when great changes and new projects were being born, both within me and around me.

The pregnancy and home birth of my daughter Famara marked a turning point in my life. Later, the home birth of my second daughter anchored a deep inner knowing: motherhood becomes more empowering when we have information, presence, and trust..

But getting here has been a journey.
I haven’t always seen motherhood from the place I am in today.

For a long time, I never imagined myself becoming a mother, and even less so giving birth at home. I have always been a very independent person, with a deep desire to learn, travel, and experience all that life has to offer. For years, I felt that motherhood, as it had been presented to me, meant giving up everything I valued most.

Yoga was the beginning of a deep inner journey. Through my body, I began to turn inward, release old beliefs, and unlock emotions that had been held within me. During my training as a yoga teacher, many things began to shift, and among them, a clear and unexpected calling towards motherhood emerged. Following that intuition, I decided to train as a I decided to specialize as a prenatal and postpartum yoga teacher..

That training transformed the way I understood women, pregnancy, and birth. I realized that we had only been told one part of the story: that birth is painful. But the most essential part had been left out: A woman is powerful, and within her she holds everything she needs to grow, birth, and nurture life..

I felt a deep calling to share this, to help women replace fear with admiration, love, safety, and trust. I made space in my life and began teaching prenatal yoga.Soon after, those two little lines appeared, changing everything.

My pregnancy marked the beginning of a transformative journey: a journey of deep listening, openness, and profound connection with other women and with myself. It was also the moment I confirmed my life’s purpose.

Today, Amanda — mother, daughter, friend, psychologist,, profesora de prenatal and postnatal yoga teacher, hypnobirthing facilitator, and doula a —, facilitadora de hipnoparto y doulasupports pregnant women and families throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeysoffering a space grounded in respect, evidence-based knowledge, deep listening, breathwork, and mindful movement.

Of course! No previous experience is needed to join my prenatal and postnatal yoga classes. Everyone is welcome.

Beginner yoga poses are much more accessible than the ones you may have seen in books or on TV. In fact, prenatal/postnatal yoga classes are an ideal way to begin your practice.

Keep in mind that I will be there to guide you and explain each posture step by step, with the necessary modifications for your stage of pregnancy. Alongside following the instructions, it is important that you listen to your body and pay attention to the signals it gives you. Yoga poses are designed to gently stretch and strengthen the body, never to force it. So, if you feel any pain or discomfort, it is best to choose a comfortable and restorative pose.

First of all, flexibility is something you can cultivate, just like any other physical ability. Yoga practice is one of the best ways to gradually build flexibility over time.

On the other hand, flexibility is not the focus of Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga. During pregnancy, the wonderful hormone relaxin naturally increases your flexibility, so in class we focus on staying within around 60–70% of our range of movement, allowing the body to move safely and reducing the risk of injury.

If flexibility isn’t the focus, what is the purpose of Prenatal Yoga?

We could say that the main purpose is to connect with your body, to become aware of the changes taking place during pregnancy, and to accept and honour them with compassion. Of course, it is also about strengthening and preparing the muscles for birth and postpartum, as well as easing the common discomforts of pregnancy.

Yes, yoga can be practiced throughout pregnancy, as long as it is not a high-risk pregnancy and your midwife or healthcare provider gives you the go-ahead.

It is true that it is often recommended to wait until the second trimester before starting a yoga practice, as during the first trimester the embryo is still implanting and it is considered the most vulnerable stage of pregnancy. However, there is no evidence of a correlation between practicing yoga during the first trimester and experiencing a miscarriage. What is true is that many women feel afraid of having a miscarriage during these first months. Our advice is that, if you are unsure or feeling fearful, honour your intuition and begin your practice when you feel ready.

Prenatal yoga is not recommended when there are pregnancy complications and your midwife or doctor advises against it.

In a prenatal yoga class, you will explore gentle stretches and pregnancy-adapted yoga poses designed to strengthen the back, ease common discomforts, support hip mobility, and strengthen the pelvic floor.

We practice breathing techniques to use during each stage of labour, conscious relaxation, connection with your baby, meditation… We combine yoga with birth and postpartum preparation, create space for questions, share experiences, and work through fears, so that you can approach birth feeling calmer, informed, safe, and empowered.

You’ll need a yoga mat, some cushions, a blanket, yoga blocks (if you have them), and a fitball (Pilates ball).

Of course! In fact, it’s something I always encourage, as I believe it’s a beautiful experience to share.

Although you are the one giving birth, your partner or birth companion has a deeply important role to play throughout the entire journey.

Unfortunately, in movies, TV shows, and books, the role of the partner/birth companion is often portrayed as very limited. Many times, they don’t know how to support or what to do, and the situation can feel overwhelming. Unless they have taken the time to learn about birth, they may not have the resources or tools needed to truly support you during labour.

An informed birth companion, equipped with the right tools, can support you through the early hours of labour at home, help you recognise the right time to go to the hospital, transform the environment into one that best supports your birth, and even make decisions when you are unable to do so yourself.

Aunque por cuestión de horarios tu pareja/ acompañante no pueda estar en la sesión en directo, puede verlo en diferido cuando pueda.

Here’s what the mothers and families I’ve supported have shared about their experience…
